Seth MacFarlane Says ‘Family Guy’ Movie Is Coming Soon | Film News

Family Guy

Seth MacFarlane has reassured fans that he still intends to make a Family Guy movie via a message on his Twitter page. MacFarlane, the creator of both Family Guy and American Dad, responded to a tweet from a fan asking when the new movie would be made with “Soon. Soon“. MacFarlane first mentioned the possibility of a Family Guy movie in 2007, stating that it would be made like The Sound of Music, a musical with dialogue. In 2012 he confirmed his plans to bring the Griffin family to the silver screen but they were put on hold for Ted 2.

However, perhaps this confirmation should be treated with caution. After all, adult animated series transitioning to film has not always been successful: whilst 1996’s Beavis and Butt-Head Do America and 1999’s South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut proved great successes, 2007’s The Simpsons Movie was a failure. Films can either aid or hinder adult animations; some would go so far as to say that a film of an animated series is the first death-knoll (sorry, The Simpsons, but you know it’s true). Only time will tell whether the Family Guy movie proves to be freakin’ sweet or a real ‘D’oh!’ moment for the series.
