Sir Simon Rattle, widely renowned as one of the worlds best conductors, has announced that he will be joining the London Symphony Orchestra as Musical Directer in September 2017. Musical Director of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra since 2002, Sir Simon first made an appearance in the London Symphony Orchestra in 1977 at the age of 22. Announced at the Barbican yesterday, Sir Simon Rattle’s appointment follows recent publicity over his statement regarding the standard of London Concert Halls, claiming that London does not have a ‘proper’ venue. Sir Simon’s wealth of experience and significant notoriety should equip him well for the personality and attitude of the London Symphony Orchestra.
