The success just keeps on coming for Star Wars, as latest installment to the franchise – The Force Awakens has dominated the US box office yet again, earning 27.1 million in 134 locations on its seventh day of release. On the night before Christmas, the movie took in 13 times more than its closest arrivals, which included: Fox’s Alvin and the Chipmuks: The Road Trip with $2 million at 3,653 cinemas on its seventh day and Paramount’s The Big Short with £1.7 million at 1,585 cinemas on its second release day.

After earning over $800 million so far, the new edition to the popular space saga is already the 22nd highest domestic grosser of all time. With the movie expected to reach the big billion after Christmas, it’s certainly a potential contender to knock 2009’s Avatar off of the top spot for highest grossing film of all time. May the force be with you.
