‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Will Pass ‘Titanic’ On New Year’s Day | Film News
Another day, another film steamrolled by the force that is Star Wars: The Force Awakens. On New Year’s Eve the film plucked another $22.9 million, and by the end of New Year’s Day the film will reportedly pass both Jurassic World ($652.3 million) and Titanic ($658.7 million) to become the second-biggest grosser of all time in America.
As we speak, the film is $100 million shy of passing Avatar to become the highest-grossing movie ever in America. But considering how many records the juggernaut that is Star Wars: The Force Awakens has demolished, the film will probably steal that title away from James Cameron as well. Globally, the film has earned an impressive $1.3 billion, making it the eighth highest-grossing film off all time. We just can’t get enough of the galaxy far, far away and understandably so. If you haven’t seen The Force Awakens, well what are you playing at? Go see it!
