Taylor Swift Cleans Up At 2015 Billboard Awards | Music News

Taylor Swift was the big winner of the 2015 Billboard Awards last night (May 17) taking home 8 of the 14 awards she was nominated for, including ‘Best Female Artist’ and ‘Artist of the Year’. Having transitioned from Country to Pop artist over the past few years, Swift thanked her fans for embracing the change and treated them to the unveiling of her music video for new track “Bad Blood”.

Other winners included Brit favourite Sam Smith who took the award home for ‘Best New Artist’ – although due to throat surgery, he had to thank his fans via flashcards – and Iggy Azalea for ‘Best Rap Artist’. Iggy also teamed up with Britney Spears to perform new song “Pretty Girls”, which will be released in the UK next month. British bands One Direction and Coldplay also won on the night as well as relative newcomer Hozier who picked up ‘Best Rock Song’ for big hit “Take Me to Church”.

Not everyone emerged triumphant however. The ever divisive Kanye West both entered and left the stage to a chorus of boos after his medley performance, parts of which were drowned out by censors and at times went completely unseen due to the heavy use of on-stage pyrotechnics. No stranger to controversy though, West carried on unphased to the delight of some members of the crowd who applauded his efforts.
