Tearjerker ‘Marley & Me’ To Be Adapted For The Small Screen | TV News

I’m not sure my emotions can go through Marley & Me again, but it looks like we’re getting a brand new television series based on the famous film, so grab some tissues because it’s going to get emotional. Based on the non-fiction book of the same name, Marley & Me hit the big screen in 2006 and stared Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston, telling the story of mischievous golden retriever, Marley who brought so much love to one family, despite his inability to behave. If you haven’t seen the movie, you’re going to need to look away now. SPOILER ALERT. At the end of the film, we see how effected the Grogan family are by Marley’s death and that’s exactly where the new television series will start off from. Here’s the outline;

“The Marley & Me comedy will pick up where the movie, based on John Grogan’s bestseller, left off. John and Jenny Grogan — the characters played in the movie by Aniston and Wilson — and their two boys, now 14 and 11, have just moved back to Florida so that John can take up his newspaper column once again. However, when a stray puppy (“owned”, but not well, by their neighbors) ends up on their doorstep, they are forced to adopt it. This dog, named Marley for the fact that they use Marley’s old leash and tags on her, is as will-full, destructive and delightful as her original namesake. And she will help shed light not only on the growing pains of the Grogan family, but also the lives of the neighbors, and fellow dog-owners, around them”.

A TV series like this can go really lame really quick, so they’ve got a big job on their hands to make this as heartwarming and enjoyable as the original book and movie, but with an almost carbon copy narrative… I’m guessing it’s going to be a little stale. Never saw the first movie? Take a look at the trailer.
