‘The Book Of Mormon’ Movie In The Works? | Film News
Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the dynamic duo behind South Park have told IGN, they have been inspired to adapt the hugely popular stage musical The Book of Mormon into a feature length film. Since the play’s launch in Broadway in 2011, the production opened in London’s West End and is due to open in Melbourne, Australia, in 2017. Stone and Parker stated that the three versions would be combined to get a ‘definitive version’ that would be suitable for the big screen. “Everything about it sounds fun, we just haven’t really talked about it that much yet“, added Parker.
The Book Of Mormon is the story of two American Mormons who visit Uganda in order to convert the native people. A hilarious and often controversial musical in it’s own right, The Book of Mormon went on to win nine Tony Awards and the accompanied album won a Grammy Award after its release in 2011 – and in addition to this, the West End adaptation an Olivier Award after its debut two years ago. When or how this film will come about is currently unknown, however the creators seem keen for it to happen once the time is right. We will just have to eagerly await, and see.
