90’s kids might have to hold out longer for their favourite Rangers to get the big screen Movie remake they deserve. After news broke that Lionsgate’s new Power Ranger Movie might not be the remake of the original like everyone has expected.

Collider revealed that new film will take place after the current tv series timeline. With the Power Rangers of the current series Dino Charge appearing on screen. Sources confirmed that the opening scene to the new film will serve as a hand-off with the Dino Charge rangers protecting the Morphing Grid before a new bunch of kick-ass teenagers take the lead.

This will also mean that original villains Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd won’t be returning given that both villains met their demise on the tv show. With rumours circling that Scorpina, who avoided the same fate as her predecessors, may be the new films big-bad.

These new reports are in stark contrast to previously announced news of character descriptions that were released back in August. That revealed the familiar names of the original five Power Ranger teenagers Jason, Kimberly, Billy, Zack and Trini, leading many to believe that the film will serve as a reboot for a new franchise on the big screen.

News also broke this week via the Power Rangers Twitter that Naomi Scott (The Martian) had be cast as the Pink Ranger but that casting is still underway to complete the team. With the film scheduled to for released in 2017, production is slated to start filming some time next year.
