Tom Cruise And Director Doug Liman Prepare Sci-fi Epic ‘Luna Park’ | Film News

DAY 12

Although it wasn’t the box office smash people had hoped for, there was enough goodwill towards Edge of Tomorrow, the sci-fi Groundhog Day that partnered Tom Cruise with director Doug Liman, that they are already planning their third collaboration together. Following 80’s-set drug dealing drama Mena, set for a January 2017 release, the director/actor duo will be making another big budget sci-fi- Luna Park.

The film is about a group of astronauts who are travelling the world in order to steal equipment to go to the moon and find a vital energy source to help save life on earth- not entirely dissimilar to last year’s smash hit Interstellar. This project has been in development since 2007, with Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Pine and Andrew Garfield all being considered as potential leads in the intervening years. With Tom Cruise now in the lead role, the project should be moving forward- although Paramount Pictures and SkyDance Productions are no longer financing.
