Tony Hall Raises Concerns Of Ministerial Power Over BBC | TV News
The Government’s white paper on the BBC has gone down fairly well, the measures not half as bad as I expected. I say not half as bad, some were concerning especially the one highlighted by Tony Hall today with the Government reforming the trust into a board of members, half chosen by them.
He commented on the issue:
“We have an honest disagreement with the government on this,” Hall said. “I do not believe the appointments proposal for the new unitary board are yet right. We will continue to make the case to government. It is vital for the future of the BBC that its independence is fully preserved.”
