Viola Davis Set To Play Amanda Waller In ‘Suicide Squad’ | Film News

The Suicide Squad movie has already racked up a ridiculous cast of Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Jai Courtney, Margo Robbie, Jared Leto and Cara Delevigne and now it seems that The Help star Viola Davis has been cast as Amanda Waller. In the comics, Waller is a stone cold, bad-ass government agent who’s in charge of The Suicide Squad, dealing with their Supervillain ways as they’re enlisted to carry out secret missions in exchange for pardons.

It’s been previously reported that both Oprah Winfrey and Octavia Spencer were up for the role but it seems Davis was the right choice, we totally agree. Davis is a phenomenal actress with brilliant performances in films like Get On Up, Doubt and Prisoners, so we’re pretty confident in her abilities to take on this awesome character. With a massive cast like this, we can’t imagine she’ll have a huge amount of screen time but any chance to get more powerful female characters in superhero movies is always ok with us. Directed by David Ayer, The Suicide Squad is set to begin production in April, with a release set for 2016.
