Watch Trailer For Ryan Gosling’s Directorial Debut ‘Lost River’ | Film Trailer

The last we heard, Ryan Gosling‘s directorial debut Lost River was knocking up some mixed reviews at its showing during last year’s Cannes Film Festival but Warner Bros saw some potential, giving it a limited release in theatres and on demand, and now there’s finally a full, official trailer! With Gosling behind the camera for the first time, the flick’s got an impressive cast including Christina Hendrix, Matt Smith, Ian De Casestecker, Saoirse Ronan and Eva Mendez. The trailer has a real fantastical, apocalyptic feel with a charmingly tortured, haunting tone that is obviously steering clear from anything mainstream. This is pretty predictable from Gosling who’s acting career has always weaved in and out of Hollywood flicks to independent knock-outs. Take a look at the synopsis below;

“Lost River  is a dark fairy tale about love, family and the fight for survival in the face of danger. In the virtually abandoned city of Lost River, Billy (Christina Hendricks), a single mother of two, is led into a macabre underworld in her quest to save her childhood home and hold her family together. Her teenage son Bones (Iain De Casestecker) discovers a mystery about the origins of Lost River that triggers his curiosity and sets into motion an unexpected journey that will test his limits and the limits of those he loves.”

I’m a big fan of Gosling’s work in his independent movies, going back to Lars And The Real Girl, Half Nelson and The United States Of Leland so I’m hoping there’s a touch of this throughout the film. I really like the colour and mise-en-scene, the filming style and general narrative that the trailer promises but there’s always the risk that it could go so far beyond any traditional film structure that audiences could get lost in the fantasy. Either way, I’m really intrigued as to check out more of Gosling’s Lost River! Check out the trailer and see what you think. Lost River hits theatres and VOD on a limited release from April 10.
