Zazie Beetz In Talks To Join Joaquin Phoenix In ‘Joker’ | Film News

Fresh off starring in one superhero movie, Zazie Beetz is now in talks to join another. Having played Domino in Deadpool 2, the actress is now looking to team up with Joaquin Phoenix in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Joker origin movie.

Per THR, Beetz is in talks to play “a single mother who catches the interest of the man” who would one day become the clown prince of crime. Considering the film is separate from other DC properties and is intended as a gritty origin story, that probably means the character is not Harley Quinn, likely to the disappointment of many.

Unfortunately that’s pretty much all we know, as even if we did know the exact character Beetz was playing, the Joker movie is not based on any comic book source material and thus we’re in the dark until Warner Bros. releases some more details. We do know that the film will be a dark character study akin to the Martin Scorsese films Taxi Driver and The King Of Comedy.

Todd Phillips will direct while also co-writing the screenplay with Scott Silver. Fans will also not have to wait too long to see what the film has in store, as earlier this week the studio set a release date of October 4, 2019. Filming is expected to start in September in New York.

Whether this movie ends up actually working or not, Warner Bros. is putting together an the makings of a very exciting cast.
