South London’s Oscar Jerome finally follows his Where Are Your Branches? EP from earlier this year and two sell out London shows with brand new single “Do You Really“.
“Do You Really” is the latest addition to a flourishing back-catalogue for Jerome, finding the artist at his most socially aware to-date, lyrically navigating his way through issues of masculinity and sexuality, whilst lacing the track with his characteristic sinewy guitar and kinetic rhythms.
Speaking about the downtempo jazz-soul number, Jerome says: “This tune is about struggling with unrealistic ideals of sex, gender roles and masculinity. The difference between intellectually knowing what is right and actually changing the way you feel deep down after being brainwashed from birth.”
2018 has been good to Jerome, with the privilege to work with incredible upcoming artists like Kokoroko, James Massiah, Poppy Ajudha as well as working with visual artists including Eda Feola and Dashti Jahfar. Having also touched base in the states with shows in New York, Oscar Jerome will next take to the iconic Village Underground for a major headline show in September. Tickets available here.
