The first trailer has arrived for Ford v. Ferrari, James Mangold‘s new film. Set against the backdrop of the 1964 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France, the story follows Carroll Shelby, a maverick American car designer who sets out to build a car that can challenge the mighty Ferrari.
He approaches fearless British racer Ken Miles to be his driver, and the duo, with the backing of Ford, set out on their insurmountable task of taking town the world’s leading racer with only a mere 90 days until the race.
The trailer looks promising, although even if it hadn’t, there would still be a lot of anticipation for what is Mangold’s follow-up to his critically acclaimed Logan. Christian Bale and Matt Damon look very game for the whole thing, and it looks like the film will have it’s fair share of laughs and charm amidst the serious chase for glory.
A film based on these events has been in the works for a while. Multiple filmmakers were loosely attached at one point, and Mangold’s film was initially slated for release this summer. Fox – now owned by Disney – pushed the film back to the autumn to position it better for an awards run.
Alongside Bale and Damon, the film stars Caitriona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Josh Lucas, Noah Jupe, and Tracy Letts. The talent involved means this certainly has the potential to contend for awards. The film hits cinemas Friday, November 15.
