Amazon Studios has signed on to finance and distribute The Map Of Tiny Perfect Things, a YA adaptation from Akiva Goldsman.
Ian Samuels – who previously helmed another popular YA film, Sierra Burgess Is A Loser – is on board to direct, while Kathryn Newton (Blockers, Big Little Lies) and Kyle Allen (Steven Spielberg‘s upcoming West Side Story remake) will star.
The film follows a teenager contentedly living the same day in an endless loop who gets his world turned upside-down when he meets a girl who’s also stuck in the same time warp. A love story with a fantastical twist blossoms, as the two struggle to figure out how – and whether – to escape their never-ending day.
The plot is similar to the more adult-oriented Palm Springs, which just broke the record for biggest film sale in the history of the Sundance Film Festival. That’s probably a good sign. FilmNation will oversee production.
Amazon have been a lot more picky in the projects they choose recently, mostly because they’ve decided on investing more money into huge blockbuster projects like their Lord Of The Rings TV series. Still, they probably see the value of an adaptation of a popular YA property, especially after watching the success rival Netflix has had with similar films.
