Allison Williams Re-Teaming With Blumhouse For Horror-Thriller ‘M3GAN’ | Film News

Having co-starred in modern horror classic Get Out for Blumhouse, Allison Williams is reuniting with the studio for another film. This one is a tech-themed horror-thriller titled M3GAN.

Williams will play a roboticist at a toy company who uses artificial intelligence to develop M3GAN, a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion as well as a parent’s greatest ally. But after unexpectedly gaining custody of her orphaned niece, Gemma enlists the help of the M3GAN prototype, and anyone who’s seen a horror movie knows it’s all downhill from there.

That premise obviously has certain similarities to the Child’s Play franchise – in fact last year’s reboot reimagined Chucky as an A.I. gone wrong. Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) will direct from Akela Cooper‘s script, itself based on a story by James Wan, who is producing the film alongside Jason Blum.

Johnstone and Cooper are rising stars in the genre, and should have able support from Wan, who’s a veteran of horror movies at this point, having been at least somewhat involved in bucketloads of genre projects.

This is a great opportunity for Williams. She did star in Netflix’s The Perfection last year, but she’s usually been used in supporting roles on the big screen. However she was part of the main ensemble in HBO’s Girls and recently appeared alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in the Showtime limited series Patrick Melrose.

Can M3GAN be a Child’s Play for a new generation? That aforementioned reboot didn’t perform too well at the box office last year despite being based on well-known IP, so either audiences think it’s time for some fresh new horror, or maybe killer dolls are just not that interesting anymore. We’ll see.
