A-Reece Unveils New Mixtape ‘Today’s Tragedy, Tomorrow’s Memory’ | Music News

Award-winning South African rap artist and producer A-Reece has released his long-awaited fifth full-length project titled Today’s Tragedy, Tomorrow’s Memory via Platoon.

This new body of work comes two years after his 2019’s Reece Effect release, which was streamed over 2 million times on Spotify and follows his last two singles, the punchy rap track “The 5 Year Plan” featuring 1000 Degreez, and the infectious “Morning Peace”.

Today’s Tragedy, Tomorrow’s Memory begins with the aptly titled “Mark 15:35” in which A-Reece opens up about the loss of loved ones and the suffering that follows.

The project also includes a more celebratory sound with “Hibachi” in which he continues to demonstrate his ability to create intricate wordplay, and melodic rap song “The Same Thing” filled with wise advice to those coming up behind him.

A-Reece then walks throughout the rest of the mixtape with various topics such as heart-breaking story, marriage, prison system, gun violence and more.

Born and raised in Pretoria, he has taken his place as one of the frontrunners of South African rap music. His first critical acclaim began when he was just 19-years old as a result of his seminal debut album release, Paradise.

A-Reece has now garnered over 30 million views on Youtube, a South African Hip-Hop Award for ‘Lyricist of the Year’, multiple nominations at the South African Music Awards and Metro FM Awards, and most recently, he was just nominated at the upcoming 2021 MTV Africa Music Awards.
