The Sunday Times Rich List is always a hot topic but this time around Adele reigns supreme. She was #30 on the overall list with a fortune of around £85 million, and again topped the Young Musicians list which covers those under 30.

Her mounting fortune was no doubt helped by the release of her album 25 in November which spawned successful singles “Hello” and “When We Were Young”. The album also scored No 1s around the globe and has sold 19 million copies.

Adele was one of only 3 women that made it onto this year’s list and has called into question whether female artists get the recognition they deserve especially those in the UK. Adele has had a great couple of months taking home four Brit Awards earlier in 2016, this is a record for a solo artist.

The list of richest musicians was topped by Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell who have collectively racked up a whopping £760m from music sales and other investments. Let’s hope UK music can continue to thrive in years to come.
