Anderson .Paak – King James | New Music

It was only last November when Anderson .Paak released Oxnard, three years after his acclaimed second album Malibu. And while .Paak is currently touring with this new album across Europe, it seems like he had a surprise up his sleeve. Announcing a follow-up, Ventura, is in the works, he drops the first single from the new project “King James“.

“3 years between Malibu and Oxnard… you know I couldn’t do that to y’all again,” he shared in an Instagram post, and he certainly didn’t disappoint. The new record is absolutely oozing in soulful jazz, building on an upbeat and funk-heavy tune. The name is suggests a tribute to NBA icon Lebron James. But it’s even bigger than that. Community, love, perseverance and family.

Not a far cry from Oxnard, but clearly this album will be a different direction musically. The 11-track album, dropping on April 12, will feature guest appearances from André 3000, the late Nate Dogg, Smokey Robinson, Brandy, Jazmine Sullivan, Lalah Hathaway and Sonyae Elise. Talk about soul.
