Ani DiFranco, or Angela Maria DiFranco, is a primarily folk/alternative rock artist who has dabbled in numerous genres including punk, funk, hip-hop, and jazz and has released more than twenty albums. Her album, Allergic to Water, was put out this past Tuesday (November 4), with various noteworthy tracks including “Woe Be Gone” and “Still My Heart”. However one that stood out to me in particular is the moving, minimalistic ballad, “Harder Than It Needs to Be”. The tear jerking vocals about a slowly dying relationship combined with the rolling acoustic guitar chords and slow trombone work together to create a very deep, depressing mood. Be sure to check it out below.
