Anne Hathaway & Jessica Chastain To Star In Psychological Thriller ‘Mothers’ Instinct’ | Film News

Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain have signed on to star in a psychological thriller titled Mothers’ Instinct, in which the duo will star as 1960s’s housewives whose relationship takes a dark turn.

Olivier Masset-Depasse is directing the film, which is an English-language remake of his own 2018 Belgian movie, Duelles. Sarah Conradt (50 States Of Fright) is writing the script, which is based on the novel Derrière La Haine by Barbara Abel.

The story revolves around best friends and neighbours Alice and Celine who both live an ostensibly idyllic lifestyle complete with perfect lawns, successful husbands and sons of the same age. But their perfect lives are suddenly shattered after a tragic accident, and their previously unbreakable bond begins to unravel thanks to guilt, suspicion and paranoia.

Masset-Depasse said in a statement:

“It takes actors of Jessica and Anne’s caliber to communicate the intricacy of these two roles. The relationship between a mother and child is the most powerful connection between two human beings. When this bond is severed, it calls into question conventional morality and even sanity. In the behind-closed-doors atmosphere of 1960’s America, Mothers’ Instinct becomes a terrifying, high-pressure powder keg”.

Hathaway and Chastain will obviously be a great duo – in fact they have already shared the screen in Christopher Nolan‘s Interstellar – and it will be great to see a psychological thriller like this with two big names involved.

Hathaway just starred in Robert ZemeckisThe Witches, which went straight to HBO Max. She’s currently filming the romantic heist movie Lockdown alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, while she’s also set to star in the upcoming Sesame Street movie as well as James Gray‘s coming-of-age film Armageddon Time.

Chastain just signed on to replace Michelle Williams in HBO’s Scenes From A Marriage remake. She’ll also star alongside Andrew Garfield in Michael Showalter‘s The Eyes Of Tammy Faye, while she just wrapped on John Michael McDonagh‘s The Forgiven.
