Ben Mendelsohn Being Eyed For Villain In ‘Captain Marvel’ | Film News

Ben Mendelsohn might not yet be a household name to casual moviegoers, but he’s made career out of playing bad guys in films such as Rogue One, The Place Beyond The Pines and Una, and he might be just about to add another big role to his evil resume. Reportedly, Marvel Studios is eyeing Mendelsohn to be the central antagonist to face off against Brie Larson in Captain Marvel.

Details on the role are being kept under wraps, though MCU boss Kevin Feige told the crowd at Comic-Con that the Skrulls would serve as the central villains, so if Mendelsohn signs on, expect something related to them.

Helpfully for Mendelsohn, he has previously worked with Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck on gambling drama Mississippi Grind, which only helps (and probably contributed to) him being in demand for this role.

He’s also set to star opposite Gary Oldman in Darkest Hour, will be playing another antagonist in Steven Spielberg‘s much anticipated Ready Player One, and to top it off he’ll be playing one of the most famous villainous roles of all time as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Origins.

So yeah, Mendelsohn excels as a villain, and it’s no surprise he’s Marvel’s first choice for another one. Unless he’s feeling burnt out from constantly stepping over to the dark side, expect Mendelsohn to take the role and continue his upward trend to becoming a household name.
