Novaa is a Berlin based alt-pop singer and songwriter and today she has just released her new single. Entitled “Audre”, the single is taken from her forthcoming album She’s A Rose that is set to be released on July 9.
The single “Audre” is paying homage to American feminist writer, poet and civil activist Audre Lorde on a fusing delicate electronic melody that supports Novaa’s haunting serene vocals. With this song, the songstress is offering a message of healing and hope in these hard and troubled times.
Novaa explained that she discovered the artist three of four years ago with her book Your Silent Will Not Protect You which is a collection of speeches, poems, ideas and essays she wrote. Novaa said that this discovery changed her perspective as a person but also as an artist.
Novaa said: “I felt like there was a softness, a gentleness and homeliness in her words that held huge strenght exactly because it was soft and gentle. It make me angry and sad that our society mostly doesn’t see, recognise nor credit the work that black women do.
What they contribute, what they sacrifice, simply and only because of stupid hierarchies and the racist system we live in. With this song I wanted to shine light on Audre and her incredible work. Research her story, her life, read her books, listen to her speeches – see and support black women and their work.”
Novaa is a 24-year-old rising star namely after the success of her recent album The Futurist, released in 2020, as well as her self-titled album released in 2019. And she is coming back with her upcoming album She A Rose.
