Bill Nighy, Caleb Landry Jones & Jay Baruchel Join Lone Scherfig Drama | Film News

Three talented actors are joining the ensemble cast of director Lone Scherfig‘s (One Day, Their Finest) new drama. Bill Nighy (Love Actually), Caleb Landry Jones (Get Out) and Jay Baruchel (This Is The End) will join the previously announced Andrea Riseborough, Tahar Rahim and Zoe Kazan in the as yet untitled film, which Scherfig has also written.

The movie has been described as a “modern day fairy tale” and will chart the story of a group of people going through the worst crises of their lives. An opulent Russian restaurant in New York City will provide much of the movie’s backdrop as characters such as an ER nurse, a mother looking to avoid her abusive husband and an ex-con turned restaurant manager entangle with one another.

The film originally went by the name Secrets From The Russian Tea Room but it is now untitled as the filmmakers consider another name. Shooting is now underway in Toronto and will soon head to Copenhagen and New York.

That is a pretty good ensemble that’s been put together, an interesting mix of experienced actors and ones just starting to break out. Reportedly the film will contain “laughter and romance”, which is a pretty broad description but does give us some idea of what kind of film this is going to be.

Scherfig isn’t a popular auteur or anything like that, but she’s experienced and 2009’s An Education garnered 3 Academy Award nominations. Hopefully she can steadily man this ensemble drama and turn it into something worthwhile.
