Boulevards – Hurtown | New Music

Jamil Rashad who is better known for his artist name Boulevards has unveiled a brand new single called “Hurtown” which is from his forthcoming full-length LP Hurtown, USA. “Hurtown” was premiered through Ones To Watch who described the LP as well.

The expansive new LP, Hurtown, USA, builds further on Rashad’s unique sound, applying the feel-good facets of funk to his poignant stories of love and loss“. The upcoming LP will be available from December 8, self-released by Boulevards.

Rashad tells that the track: “‘Hurtown’ is about driving through pain and heartbreak and letting go of that hurt. Me, Adam and Laura wanted to create a song that is based around an emotional turmoil that is hard to come back from. Anxiety, fear, loss, depression are things the heart goes through while dealing with heartbreak. This is what ‘Hurtown’ sounds and feels like.

Modern-funk artist Rashad was introduced to the music world in an early age, as his father was a R&B Radio DJ, who introduced him to jazz, blues and R&B music. While he was growing up, he began to embrace the punk and metal scene in his hometown of Raleigh.

This would later have an influence on his songwriting in the way of their tight technical precision and power. Following his art school education and playing with some local bands, he rediscovered and went back to what he really loved, which is funk.
