Bradford Young To Remain Director Of Photography On Untitled Han Solo Movie | Film News

While directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord being fired from the upcoming Han Solo film and replaced by the reliable, safe Ron Howard shocked Star Wars fans and left them wondering how the film will turn out, there is a little good news to be taken from the fallout. Director of Photography Bradford Young remains on the crew and will still shoot the film.

Whether Howard would retain Young once he took over production was a question on many fans lips, but judging by a few on-set shots, Young was seen setting up a shot and will shoot the film, arguably making him the de-facto auteur of the film, considering Howard has basically been brought in to supervise and paper over the supposed cracks that Lord and Miller left.

What this means? However the film turns out, it should at least look excellent. Young is one of the most talented cinematographers working today, having produced stunning work on big films such as Denis Villeneuve‘s Arrival and Ava DuVernay‘s Selma, as well as A Most Violent Year, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints and Pariah to name a few.

So while Miller and Lord’s removal from the film will likely create a bit of a mess, and there’s a good chance we’ll be watching a safe, unimaginative, by-the-numbers film, Young should at least keep the film aesthetically pleasing and coherent amid the rubble.

The film is currently scheduled to be released May 25, 2018.
