When it was announced that Cara Delevingne would lead Luc Besson’s upcoming sci-fi epic Valerian alongside Dane Dehaan, I was instantly intrigued, and I’ve been eagerly keeping tabs on the film since. Now, production on the film has officially commenced and Queen Cara marked the occasion by offering us our first behind-the-scenes look.

In the pic, which was posted on her Instagram, we see Cara donning a golden crown and the crew gearing up in the background. Delevingne will be portraying Laureline, Valérian’s (Dehaan) partner in crime and equal – a badass and independent heroine with a lot of brains. Valerian is based on the popular French graphic novel Valerian and Laureline by Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézières, and follows two time travelling agents and their mission to “help defend a utopian 28th century Earth and its neighbouring planets from bad guys, with the pair’s adventures rooted in space opera and time travel themes”.

According to director Luc Besson, the film will shoot for 115 days with a team consisting of 420 crew members. The film also stars Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke and Delevingne’s real-life friend Rihanna. Officially titled Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, the film is currently slated for a July 21, 2017 release.

…and so it begins! New film, new family #Valerian
