Celeste Wins BBC Music Sound Of 2020 | Music News

The BBC has just announced that the winner of the BBC Music Sound of 2020 award is Celeste.

The 25-year-old British-Jamaican singer joins a pool of incredibly successful previous winners including Jessie J, Adele and Ellie Goulding.

The BBC Sound Of… award is given to artists who are expected to succeed in the coming year. Having already won the Brits Rising Star award and being named artist of the year by BBC Music Introducing, 2020 is looking to be a promising year for Celeste.

The BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac has commented: “Celeste is a phenomenal talent, a voice that does not come around often and when you are exposed to it, is impossible to ignore”.

Celeste released her debut EP in March 2017, which was produced by Lily Allen’s Bank Holiday Records label. In 2018, the singer signed a major record deal with Polydor.

Celeste expressed excitement at the prospect of a brand new decade, telling Huw Stephens last month: “I’ve been looking forward to this year for so long, I’ve had this number in my head for ages.

Taking this prestigious BBC award into 2020, Celeste plans on doing a “load more shows” this year as well as releasing an album by the end of 2020.
