Chad Stahelski Returning To Direct ‘John Wick: Chapter 3’ | Film News

Who’d have thought when John Wick arrived to little fanfare in 2015, that three years later we’d soon be getting a second sequel and spinoff TV series? Lionsgate are obviously all in on the now full-blown action franchise, which makes it no surprise that director Chad Stahelski will be returning to direct the third film in the series, John Wick: Chapter 3.

Stahelski co-directed the first film alongside David Leitch, before flying solo on the second instalment. The Hashtag Show has also reported that principal photography is set to begin in New York City on Thursday, March 1, with other potential locations being named as Spain and Russia.

Stahelski talked about his ideas for the third film last year:

“We want, not so much to go bigger on the third one, but to show you more of the intricacies of the world[…] Rather than massive set pieces, I’d like to show you cooler and more intricate ones. I think it would be a mistake budget wise and creatively to just go big and blow up a freeway. That’s not our gig. That’s a comic book or a Bond gig. We want to show you cool and intricate details”.

That all sounds good for fans of Keanu Reeves‘ cold-blooded ex-hitman, who will also be happy to hear that Stahelski will be directing the pilot of the spinoff TV series for Starz, titled The Continental, and that Reeves is expected to have a cameo. Everything’s moving along quickly for Hollywood’s least likely extended universe.
