Chanel Celebrates Karl Lagerfeld At First Show Since His Passing | Fashion News

Karl Lagerfeld‘s final collection for Chanel has graced the runway at Paris Fashion Week today, March 5. It was an emotional show, held in the Grand Palais of Paris. He was known for his spectacular sets and this one was no exception. The ski-chalet, winter wonderland theme was introduced with a minute of silence for the iconic designer.

The fashion icon passed away on February 19 in Paris at the age of 85. He acted as creative director at Fendi and Chanel, the latter he had designed for since 1983. His collaborator for more than 30 years, Virginie Viard, is more than enthusiastic to continue Lagerfeld’s vision at Chanel.

Cara Delevingne and Kaia Gerber led the models on the runway. The first model was a regular working with the French fashion house and was a close friend of the designer. Actress Penelope Cruz also made her catwalk debut.

“I felt like laughing and crying at the same time, to see all these people that loved him so much celebrating him together. But seeing all this, also it’s the beginning of something else, all that he’s created over all these years.” Cruz said.

Guest were given an illustration of Lagerfeld in his signature ponytail, sunglasses and suit, as well as Coco Chanel in a hat and tweed suit, with the words “The beat goes on”. Between those attending there were Kristen StewartJanelle Monae, Naomi Campbell, Clemence Poesy, Claudia Schiffer, Monica Bellucci and Ashley Benson.
