We have seen many films over the years with people falling in love, disapproving parents, and secrets. The upcoming Warner Bros. Studios film Crazy Rich Asians has it all but it’s special in one way – the cast is all Asian. As this is a Hollywood production, it is truly something really new because normally we’re used to seeing only two or three ethnic minority characters.
The film follows Rachel Chu, a native New Yorker as she accompanies her longtime boyfriend Nick Young to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore. This also means that she will meet his parents for the first time. On this occasion she discovers that he is a) super-rich and b) the most sought-after bachelor. To make it worse his mother hates her and wants to end their relationship whatever it may cost.
The Jon M. Chu-directed film will star Constance Wu and Henry Golding alongside Gemma Chan, Awkwafina, and Ken Jeong. It will hit the theaters on August 17.
