The separation between producer Ethan Kath and singer Alice Glass, founding members of the alt-electro duo Crystal Castles, hasn’t been simple: mutual accusations spread after the front-woman announced her departure from the band. Even after a year, the relationship between the two is damaged, but Crystal Castles are back on track with a new singer, a new single, and a new album.

Edith Frances (who at first glance looks exactly like Glass) is the absolute protagonist of Crystal Castles’ new single; “Concrete” is a caustic witch-house track that takes the listener back to the atmosphere of the band’s second album. Its new accompanying video is as disturbing as the single itself, and features multiple disorienting close ups of Frances dancing at a rave.

Crystal Castles reassured their fans that more details regarding the album will follow shortly, but Shazam and Amazon already confirmed its title as Amnesty (I), as well as scheduling its release date for August 19.

I speak as loud as the volume I listen to music, and this is probably symptomatic of my love for pop music: I love pop music because it is often unapologetically in-your-face, it shouts rather than tell, it drives you crazy. And after 21 years loving pop music, I think I’ve completely gone mad. It all started in 1997, when my mum bought me my first cassette: needless to say, it was ‘Barbie Girl’ by Aqua, and from that point on, it’s been a never-ending loving relationship between me and music. I study, work and live life part-time, and listen to music full-time.
