You’ve just landed the role of a lifetime in the franchise of a lifetime. The pressure and excitement is on. Imagine walking on to set, it’s your first day of shooting and after delivering your first takes your director, who happens to be J.J Abrams, walks up to you and tells you he thinks your acting is “wooden”. Worst nightmare ever, right? Daisy Ridley star of the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens would know because this actually happened to her. I can’t even imagine the anxiety and humiliation those words must have brewed.

In a interview with Glamour UK for the upcoming January issue, Ridley opened up about this very incident. “JJ… probably doesn’t remember telling me that my performance was wooden. This was the first day! And I honestly wanted to die. I thought I was gonna cry, I couldn’t breathe. And there was so many crew there, because obviously all the creatures [had stand-ins], and there were loads of extra crew making sure everyone was safe ’cause it was so hot. It was awful”.

Luckily enough things took a turn for the better after that nerve-racking incident as Ridley revealed “My experience has been incredible. I’ve felt supported and respected the whole way through. I’ve not been told not to do anything. My Instagram has not been… what it’s called when they keep tabs on it? Yeah, it’s not monitored”. Let’s hope she remains her refreshingly candid self, we need women like that.
