The frontman of American alternative metal band Deftones has just revealed in an interview with NME that their ninth album will be “definitely be out next year“. Chino Moreno has confirmed that the band has worked for about a year on the follow-up to the album Gore (2016), and the moment to release it has finally arrived.

The only things known about their forthcoming work is that it will be “powerful“ and “worth of music”even if, at the moment it would not be possible to know the definitive release date. Earlier this year, the lead singer also revealed that the work would probably remind their fans of the acclaimed album White Pony.

As Moreno said, the band is experiencing another experimental moment, that it’s making them feel closer to that album and will lead them to something similar it. They have proven to still be a great band few days ago (November 2), when they performed at their second annual ’Dia De Los Deftones’ music festival.

On that stage, the band gifted their californian crowd with the first live performance of the rare Eros track “Smile”. On this special occasion, Moreno dedicated this live performance to the loss of their bassist Chi Cheng, who passed away in 2013. As he told their crowd before playing it: “This one’s for my man, Cheng.”
