‘Despicable Me 3’ Is A Laugh Out Loud Animation | Film Review

Despicable Me 3 is a recently-released animation starring Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Trey Parker, Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, Nev Scharrel, Pierre Coffin, Steve Coogan, Julie Andrews and Jenny Slate.

It is directed by Kyle Balda, Pierre Coffin and Eric Guillon. A synopsis for this film reads: “Gru meets his long-lost charming, cheerful, and more successful twin brother Dru who wants to team up with him for one last criminal heist”.

I really liked the film. It is funny, touching, fast-paced and treats all the characters with great attention. I liked the fact that minions don’t dominate the film, but are hilarious in the scenes where they appear, the girls are super adorable and the relationship between the twin brothers Gru and Dru was handled a lot better than I expected. I think Despicable Me 3 is better than the second film and it can be enjoyed by kids, but also by adults.

The jokes were slapstick most of the time, there was no real depth to it, but was there ever? Nevertheless it was good. I instantly loved the villain, the man wearing shoulder pants! While not as entertaining as Vector from the first movie, this 80’s villain Balthazar Bratt held up as a worthy successor. The next highlight of the movie was Dru, Gru’s twin brother. Steve Carell manages to do a higher pitch version of the same voice and accent he used with Gru and he nails it. The character blends effortlessly into movie.

The third movie follows the same formula as the first two, in which the villain causes big trouble kidnapping someone close to Gru ! As per usual, Gru and the family come to the rescue. Unlike most movie trilogies, where the jokes get old and we get a feeling they should just stop, Despicable Me 3 manages to keep its charm and deliver a very entertaining movie. If I were to give a rating for this movie it would be a 7.5 out of 10.
