Dev Patel In Talks To Star In David Lowery’s ‘Green Knight’ Adaptation | Film News

Dev Patel is in talks to star in David Lowery‘s Green Knight, per Deadline. The film, being produced for A24, is a fantasy epic, and a retelling of the medieval tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

The 14th century story goes that the Green Knight challenges anyone to strike him with his gold sword. In exchange, the offending knight must take a return blow one year and one day afterwards. Gawain accepts and beheads the Green Knight, only for the knight to calmly pick up his head, walk away, and remind Gawain of his end of the bargain.

Patel, having received an Academy Award nomination for his 2016 film Lion, hasn’t yet broken out as the star many predicted after his memorable role in Danny Boyle‘s Slumdog Millionaire. This is the kind of role he’s likely been waiting for though, as Green Knight should allow him to sink his teeth into a strange yet unique role.

As for Lowery, this marks another shift in genres for the director. He’s previously directed the existential arthouse film A Ghost Story, the family fantasy movie Pete’s Dragon, and most recently, the 70s-inspired heist film The Old Man & The Gun. He’s certainly not someone to stay in their lane.

Green Knight doesn’t sound like the kind of thing A24, or any studio for that matter, are making right now, so it’s hard to form an idea of how it’s even going to look. But that’s what makes it interesting. We’ll wait for more details.
