Disney has cancelled it’s third installment of the sci-fi live action series Tron. Although the film had never been officially confirmed, there were rumours that the film would be directed by Joseph Kosinski and Tron: Legacy stars, Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde would be returning. It had been believed that production would begin later this year in Vancouver, British Columbia, some had even reported a possible title for the movie.
Disney have not confirmed why they won’t be going ahead with a third Tron film, however there has been speculation that Disney are choosing to focus on live action adaptations of their classic animations, such as The Jungle Book. Perhaps the recent disappointing box office figures for Tomorrowland enabled Disney to make a final decision about the long awaited ‘Tron’ third installment.
