Disney Developing Live-Action Middle Ages Movie ‘Knights’ | Film News

Disney is developing a live-action adventure movie titled Knights. It will be set in the Middle Ages, and the studio has tapped Operation Finale scribe Matt Orton to write the script. The plot revolves around a headstrong young woman who joins a knight in his quest to destroy a world-threatening artefact before it falls into the wrong hands.

The project is expected to be a theatrical title rather than a Disney+ release. Disney’s live-action executives Jessica Virtue and Chaz Salembier will oversee the project. They’re currently working on the Emma Stone Cruella movie and the Lady And The Tramp reboot, respectively.

Strangely, this is part of a number of medieval projects Disney has in the works. They have Ridley Scott‘s The Merlin Saga in development, as well as a Sword In The Stone remake from director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Game of Thrones scribe Bryan Cogman.

It’s possible one of these projects is currently hanging by a thread and will be replaced by Knights. However both of those have built-in IP, which Disney likely covets over something original like this. So who knows. Maybe they’re just on a medieval kick.

Disney will close out 2019 with Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil, Frozen 2 and Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. So yeah, expect absurd amounts of money to soon be heading their way. Perhaps that’s why they can afford to make as many medieval films as they want.
