Dolce Apologizes For Insensitive Comments On IVF And Gay Adoption | Fashion News

Domenico Dolce has stepped forward to apologize for his comments made in March this year concerning both IVF and his opposition on gay adoption. “You are born to a mother and a father. Or at least that’s how it should be”, Dolce said. “I call children of chemistry ‘synthetic children’. Rented wombs, semen chosen from a catalog… psychiatrists are not ready to confront the effects of this experimentation“. The comments brought immediate controversy after they were featured in Panorama Magazine’s interview with both Domenico and Stefano Gabbana.

Elton John (the father to two children born through IVF with husband David Furnish) was quick to respond to their interview, asking people to boycott the brand, as he showed his disgust and disbelief on Instagram, posting, “How dare you refer to my beautiful children as ‘synthetic’, shame on you for wagging your judgmental little fingers at IVF – a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfill their dream of having children. Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce & Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana“.

Dolce recently told American Vogue, “I’ve done some soul-searching. I’ve talked to Stefano a lot about this. I’ve realized that my words were inappropriate, and I apologize, they are just kids. You don’t need labels, baby labels. I think everybody chooses for themselves. I don’t know everything about IVF, but I love it when people are happy. It’s like medicine. Science has been put on the table to help people“. I stand with Elton on this, but at least Dolce had the decency to apologize publicly.
