Over a year ago, news broke that director Lee Daniels would be helming a new movie of the life of comedian Richard Pryor and that Mike Epps would be playing the lead role. Now it seems Eddie Murphy has bagged a role in the up and coming flick, a not so surprising but positive bit of news! The Shrek star was once rumoured for the role of Pryor when Dreamgirls director Bill Condon was on board to helm the film but with a change of director, came Epps’ success in landing the lead role. Still, Murphy is set for a big role within the flick, with Entertainment Tonight confirming his involvement.
While there’s no confirmed word on what role Murphy will play, ET and other sources expect him to play Pryor’s Father, LeRoy “Buck Carter” Pryor. Murphy will be joining Epps as Pryor, Oprah Winfrey as Pryor’s wife and Kate Hudson as Pryor’s wife, Jennifer. It will be interesting to see Murphy in a role like this after his great role in Dreamgirls. Pryor died in 2005 after a hugely successful career as an actor and comedian. Keep an eye out for more casting news here!
