Fans Petition Disney To Rehire James Gunn For ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy 3’ | Film News
An online petition has been signed by more than 65,000 people demanding the rehiring of director James Gunn for the third instalment of Guardians of the Galaxy.
Gunn was recently sacked by Disney over old tweets that resurfaced and has thus been removed from the popular Marvel franchise. Although not agreeing with the comments made, fans wish to see Gunn back for the final film. The petition statement on Change.org states:
“The studio has full right to fire him over the possible controversy. This situation is very different though as he made these jokes years before he was working for Disney and also the fact that they were jokes.” It goes onto to say that many agree with Gunn himself that these jokes were certainly not funny but “it was just a bad attempt at being funny”.
With Gunn off Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Marvel are left to figure out the replacement of Gunn. It is unclear who is to take this position but there is a possibility of Taika Waititi, (director of Thor: Ragnarok) taking the wheel.
