In an age where we are constantly connected to one another through the use of our digital devices it is easy to drift away from the idea of meeting by chance. Responding to this, Menswear Designer, Feng Chen Wang explores how meeting by chance appears in the digital age through her Spring/Summer 2017 collection.
“All my friends are connected so I expressed this is my collection: it is functional and everything is tied and connected”, says Feng Chen Wang. “I believe people meet for a reason, and this is so beautiful in life. Friday saw her London Collections: Men debut at MAN’s Spring/Summer 17 show, with Wang presenting to her audience a showcase of garments constructed to reflect the semiotics and interconnecting social circles of the world wide web. Prominent features of the collection included mishmashing of cabled weaves noted as a metaphor for the unique ways people meet in today’s digitalised world and 3D letter fabrics that spelt out expressive terms of togetherness, such as ‘YOU’ and ‘WE’.
