First Trailer Arrives For Ang Lee & Will Smith’s ‘Gemini Man’ | Film Trailer

Paramount has dropped the first trailer for Ang Lee‘s upcoming thriller, Gemini Man. Starring Will Smith in dual roles, the film follows Henry Brogan, an elite assassin who is suddenly targeted by a young operative who can seemingly predict his every move. He soon discovers that the operative is a younger version of himself.

Gemini Man has been in post-production for a while. Mostly because Smith’s younger character had to be de-aged using advanced technology that’s also being used on Martin Scorsese‘s The Irishman. The concept for the film has been in development since 1997. Most of the various delays were due to technology not being advanced enough to realistically portray the clone aspect of the movie.

The trailer probably won’t immediately infuse viewers, but this is a film by Ang Lee, the man behind Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, 2003’s Hulk (arguably the weirdest superhero movie ever), and Brokeback Mountain. He’s been successful in multiple genres, and there’s likely more than meets the eye to this ostensible generic thriller.

Plus, much like his previous film, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, Lee has shot the film with an ultra high frame rate of 120 frames per second. For context, Billy Lynn was the first film shot in 120 fps, shattering the previous record (Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit was 48 fps).

That may just sound like technical jargon, but anyone who was able to see Billy Lynn in its proper 120 fps, 4K HD, 3D form knows what a blow away, absurdly real experience it is. It made watching Avatar in IMAX look like a home viewing on TV.

It will be interesting to see how Paramount distributes Gemini Man and gives audiences the opportunity at the full experience Lee is producing. Alongside Smith, the film also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Benedict Wong, and Clive Owen. It hits cinemas Friday, October 11.
