First Trailer For Barry Jenkins’ ‘Moonlight’ Follow Up ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’ | Film Trailer

Annapurna Pictures have released the first trailer for If Beale Street Could Talk, writer-director Barry Jenkins‘ highly-anticipated follow up the Academy Award-winning Moonlight. Based on the novel by James Baldwin, the story follows lovers Fonny and Tish who must race against the clock after Fonny is falsely accused of rape and Tish realises she is pregnant with his baby.

While the above trailer doesn’t reveal much of a plot, it does thoroughly succeed in creating the kind of mood Jenkins captured in Moonlight.

The beautiful, melancholic city aesthetic coupled with the inaudible anguish of its characters and archive recordings of Baldwin playing in the background make this an aching but beautiful trailer. If the film itself evokes the same kind of emotions this short clip does, we could be looking at another Oscar for Jenkins.

If Beale Street Could Talk stars Kiki Layne, Stephan James, Colman Domingo, Teyonah Parris, Michael Beach, Dave Franco, Diego Luna, Pedro Pascal, Ed Skrein, Brian Tyree Henry and Regina King. The film opens in cinemas Friday, November 30.
