Fox Release ‘Alien: Covenant’ Short Film | Film News

An extended prologue has been released for Ridley Scott‘s upcoming Alien: Covenant. The five minute short film contains no footage from the actual film and is titled Prologue: Last Supper, focusing on the crew of the ship as they prepare to enter cryosleep, which they will presumably wake up from to begin the actual film.

While the short isn’t anything spectacular, it’s a really smart way to introduce us to the characters without ruining the opening scene of the film, or spoiling major moments with a huge, elongated trailer. The short is directed by Scott’s son, Luke Scott. There’s surely the odd clue to be taken from the short – what’s up with James Franco‘s captain? What connection does new android, Walter, have to Prometheus?

The film itself will star Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, James Franco, Danny McBride, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Alexander England, Benjamin Rigby, Demián Bichir and Nathaniel Dean, the latter two of which will be playing the franchise’s first LGBT characters, as revealed in the short film.

It’s always nice to see a project be taken extra seriously, with added bonuses to help envelope us within the world of the film. Teasing fans with this short will only get them more excited for Scott’s film, let’s hope he delivers. Watch the prologue below.
