Gael García Bernal To Star In M. Night Shyamalan’s Next Project | Film News

Gael García Bernal has signed on to star in M. Night Shyamalan‘s latest movie. Just a month after we learned that Ken Leung, Nikki Amuka-Bird, and Abbey Lee had been added to the already stacked cast, Bernal is on board for a film that remains clouded in mystery.

So naturally, details on Bernal’s character and the film in general are hard to come by. The project was first announced back in May alongside Alex Wolff‘s casting, before Vicky Krieps, Eliza Scanlen, Thomasin McKenzie, and Aaron Pierre joined the cast a month later.

Considering Shyamalan’s propensity for twists, it makes sense that details on projects are usually kept close to the vest. There’s also the possibility that this film secretly links to his prior work, like how Split turned out to be connected to Unbreakable, which led to Shyamalan’s latest film, Glass.

We’ll have to wait and see. Bernal is a great actor who’s always been happy to shift genres and explore different types of characters. It will be a lot of fun to see him lead a Shyamalan film, and he’ll be the first Latinx actor to lead one of the director’s movies.

Universal has already given the film a release date of July 23, 2021. Hopefully that will stay in place, although with the backlog of films that will be making their way to 2021 (and possibly beyond?), who knows.
