Gal Gadot has signed on to potentially add another franchise to her resume. The Wonder Woman star will star in international spy thriller Heart Of Stone. She reportedly scored an eight-figure deal with Skydance Media to star in the film, placing her in the upper echelon of highest-paid actresses.
The original idea is described as a female 007 meets Mission Impossible. Comic-book writer Greg Rucka (The Old Guard) and Oscar nominee Allison Schroeder (Hidden Figures) have penned the script, and Tom Harper (The Aeronauts) is currently in talks to direct.
Gadot will also produce, and Skydance is currently exploring whether the film will be released theatrically or will debut on a streamer.
Getting Gadot for this kind of film makes total sense, as she’s established herself as a major action star. Firstly in the Fast & Furious movies before hitting superstardom thanks to Wonder Woman.
The idea of a female 007 meets Mission Impossible obviously sounds fantastic, but plenty of films have described themselves in similar vein. It sounds tantalising, but we’ll see if the eventual film actually comes close to those comparisons. Outside of Rucka, the other creative talent involved haven’t worked much at all in action films, so it will be interesting to see how they adapt.
Gadot will next be seen in Wonder Woman 1984, which hits cinemas and HBO Max on Christmas Day.
