Gillian Anderson And Lily James To Star In ‘All About Eve’ West End Adaptation | Culture

A stage adaptation of the famous movie drama All About Eve, that in 1950 earned 14 Academy Award Nominations, has been in the works, with actresses Gillian Anderson and Lily James set to star.

The West End production will begin in February 2019 at the Noel Coward Theatre in London, and it will be staged by theatrical director Ivo Van Hove.

Cate Blanchett was in early talks to play the aging but glorious Broadway star Margo Channing, who befriends and ends up trusting the eerie Eve Harrington, a besotted fan, who slowly manages to insinuates herself into Margo’s life. Due to scheduling conflicts, however, the Hollywood star won’t be able to take part in the stage production, hence the entrance of Gillian Anderson in the titular role.

Anderson, who started her career on stage, and has appeared in several stage productions, more notably A Streetcar Named Desire, alongside Vanessa Kirby, is a most favorable choice to bring the vulnerable character of Margo to life. Her experienced years on the London stage scene will definitely make for a successful stage debut of the play.

Joining her is Cinderella‘s star Lily James. The young english actress will play the daunting Eve Harrington. Complimenting Anderson when it comes to stage productions, James has a good resumé herself, having starred in several West End productions. Next, she will be seen in the Mamma Mia sequel in the role of a young Meryl Streep.

Given the names involved, the stage adaptation of All About Eve will surely galvanize the London theatrical season in what is sure to be a West End’s hit.
