Gillian Jacobs & Marwan Kenzari To Star In Romantic Comedy ‘Any Other Night’ | Film News

Gillian Jacobs (Community, Love) and Aladdin breakout star Marwan Kenzari have signed on to lead the Berlin-set romantic comedy Any Other Night, which is in development at XYZ Films.

Michiel Ten Horn will direct from a script written by Patrick Whistler. The film follows two strangers thrown together as their lives are falling apart. Freshly dumped Maggie and flailing cab driver Max meet on the night of a crippling transit strike, with the latter loading all of Maggie’s possessions into the back of his decrepit van-cab. What should have been a simple fare becomes a wild, late-night odyssey.

It sounds a little like a light-hearted Collateral, without the murders (presumably). The film will mark the English-language debut of Ten Horn, who previously directed festival darling The Deflowering Of Eva van End, and recently the first Dutch Netflix Original series, Ares.

“I’m just so happy to be working with Gillian and Marwan on this film,” said Ten Horn in a statement. “Gillian has obviously honed such smart, sharp comic timing. Marwan brings an incredible on-camera presence, intense but likeable. This film is a chance to see them both in a new light, something a little different than audiences may expect. It’s exciting. Their energy together is undeniable”.

Jacobs recently starred in charming comedy-drama I Used To Go Here and horror movie Come Play, and she has the Fear Street trilogy for Netflix and actioner Violence Of Action in the works. Kenzari sprung off his breakout role as Jafar in Disney’s live-action Aladdin with roles in Netflix action film The Old Guard, and an upcoming one in superhero movie Black Adam.

XYZ Films is the studio behind recent Netflix sci-fi hit Stowaway, while they also have Sion Sono‘s Prisoners Of The Ghost Land, starring Nicolas Cage and Sofia Boutella, coming soon.
